A student account is a type of savings account which is applicable for Nigerian students within the age of 16 to 28. The student account was introduced in other to enable Nigeria students save money.
The students account is very easy to open and does not require any amount of money to do so, and you can open an account by using your student ID card, admission letter or National Identity card.
This Nigerian student account is a tier 1 account and has such has limits placed on it i.e. the deposit limit and the operating balance limit.
Each bank in Nigeria have different limits placed on a student bank account, but we are going to be focusing on Access bank.

Access bank student account limit
The access bank student account is limited to an operating balance of 300,000 naira, this means that at no time can your access bank student account contain more than 300,000 naira.
For example, if someone wants to credit you 400,000 naira, it probably won’t go through, or if it does, you will need to upgrade the account before you can access the money.
It is also limited to a single deposit of 50,000 naira i.e. you receive more than 50,000 naira in deposit at any time.
You can upgrade your account to a tier 2 or tier 3 account by providing the required documents like National identity card, international passport etc.
Upgrading your account to a tier 3 account will remove all the limits, and you can receive and send an unlimited amount of money to your bank account.
Requirements to Open an Access bank student account
The following are the things you will require to open an access banks student account:
- A completely filled account opening form
- Bank verification number
- School ID card or any form of acceptable ID card
- Passport photograph
How to upgrade access bank student account?
Walk into any access bank branch and head to the customer service section and tell them that you want to upgrade your access bank account.
You will be given a form to fill with information like your name, account number, bank verification number, home address, telephone number etc.
Make sure you fill the form correctly and submit, along with the required documents as requested by the staff.
The whole process should not take more than 24 hours or less to complete. Once it is complete, you can now receive any amount of money into your bank account.
