Why is my card stuck in the ATM?

The reason why your card is stuck in the ATM might be as a result of network issues, power fluctuation, faulty machine and more.

There is no one reason why cards can sometimes get stuck, and if unfortunately it happens to you, then you will need to do the below.

If your card is stuck in the ATM, then you will need to do the following:

Wait for 10 minutes

Sometimes, you may think that your card is stuck in ATM, but instead, it may just be a temporary delay, which will be resolved in a few minutes. The ATM might spit out your card in a few minutes after it may have seemed to have swallowed the card.

So the first step to take when your card is stuck in the ATM is to wait up to 10 minutes for the ATM to spit your card out.

Report to the bank

If the ATM you are using is that of your bank, you can walk into the bank to report that your card is stuck in the machine.

In some cases, they may request for you to come back the next day in which they might have retrieved your card for you or you may be asked to block the card and request for a new one.

These days, you can apply for an ATM card and get it on the same day from the bank, so you can easily block the previous one and get a new one.

Contact your bank customer care

You can also contact your bank customer care to report that your card has been swallowed by the ATM. You should take note of the time, the location of the machine and every other relevant information, then provide it to the bank.

They may ask to block your card and request for you to apply for a new one.

Report to a security staff

Another advice is to report to the nearest security staff close to the ATM, sometimes the machine may spit out the card at a later time when the machine is not in use, and the security staff might help you secure it.

This happens a lot of the time, the machine may spit out your card long after you have gone.
