Why is my Access bank account restricted?

The following are some of the reasons why your access bank account may have been restricted:

Dormant account

A very common reason why your account is restricted may be because you left if dormant for too long. By dormant, I mean you didn’t perform any transaction on it for a long period of time.

For most banks, if you do not perform any transaction from your account in a period of 6 months or more, it may become restricted/dormant and you may need to reactivate it.

Update account details

Some banks will also restrict your account if they need you to update/upgrade your account. For example, if your account is a tier 2 account and you have received more than its limit, then you may need to provide some certain documents, so your account can be upgraded and in the process unrestricted.

Fraudulent transactions

Another reason why your access bank account may have been restricted might be because it was involved in some sort of fraudulent activity.

In this case, banks usually have no choice but restrict your account, at least until there is enough proof that no foul play occurred.

It could also be that you were the one who contacted customer care on a potential fraudulent activity on your bank account, in which case the bank restricted it.

Liquidating

If you are removing all the money on your bank account, the bank might also restrict it. In Many cases, this is done to prevent fraud, in case you are not one liquidating your account yourself.

This is to prevent you from losing all your money to scammers.

There are a few other reasons why your Access bank account has been restricted, but the above is the usually the most common ones.
